Sedum Roof Construction
This passage in the fll 2008 permits a wider range of options for installing sedum blanket roofs.
Sedum roof construction. An all purpose soil less peat free potting mix is fine for growing herbs and other edibles but mix in plenty of perlite to both improve drainage and save on weight. Roughly speaking extensive green roofs have a substrate thickness of between 4 and 15 cm and a weight of 30 to 220 kilo per m2. We designed and built our own sedum roof on a 5m wide carport. There are various layers of sheeting on top to make the roof waterproof.
On top of that we added 75mm of mixed topsoil and gravel into which the sedum plants were sown.
